The Righteous and Unrighteous | 1 John 2:28-3:10

This fall we have been studying a sermon series called The Letters of John: A Study of First, Second, and Third John. As we have discussed, these books are believed to be written by the apostle John, an eyewitness to the gospel of Jesus, teaching believers how to live the Christian life. This week we will be taking a closer look at 1 John 2:28-3:10. In this passage John encourages Christians to ponder God’s love for them and helps them understand that there is a clear difference between a child of God and an unbeliever. Specifically, he doesn’t want them to be deceived; righteous living is a fruit of a Christian, and unrighteousness is a fruit of an unbeliever. Listen in as we study the passage and apply biblical principles to our lives.

Forgiven and Called to Obedience | 1 John 2:1-14

Recently, we started a new series called The Letters of John: A Study of First, Second, and Third John. The purpose of this series is to explore the truths found in John’s letters and apply them to our lives, and what we will discover is that all three epistles were written to help believers live the Christian life. This week we will continue our study by looking at 1 John 2:1-14. We will notice John states another one of his purposes: that the Christians he is writing to would avoid sin. However, when they do sin, he explains that true Christians can have confidence that they have been forgiven by Jesus’ work and thus should seek to walk in obedience. This includes love for one another. Listen in as we study the passage and apply biblical principles to our lives.

Last week, we started a new series called The Letters of John: A Study of First, Second, and Third John. The purpose of this series is to explore the truths found in John’s letters and apply them to our lives, and what we will discover is that all three epistles were written to help believers live the Christian life. This week we will continue our study by looking at 1 John 1:5-10. We will notice that from the outset, John declares that God is light and His people likewise should avoid the darkness and walk in the light. He clarifies that this doesn’t mean sinless perfection, but it does look like honesty and ongoing confession of one’s sin. Join us as we study this passage and apply the truths to our lives.
